Periodontal disease (called paradonthosis) is one of the most common mouth diseases and very frequent cause of tooth loss (comes 2nd after decay)

Course of disease

At the early stage of the disease we may notice continuous or returning inflammations of gums, the gum side lowers exposing the tooth neck, frequently causing hypersensitivity - this should alert the patient and make him/her visit the dentist as soon as possible to diagnose and treat the disease. If nothing can be done and the tooth must be taken out, we put implants in.

If the treatment is not started, a pathological gum pocket is formed and gradually deepens, destroying the periodontal membrane and bone. This is an intensive form of the disease. Teeth become loose, bone pockets are created, at the final stage of the disease roots are held practically by the gums only, instead of bones. At this stage the patient may take the tooth out using his/her fingers only.

Treating gum illnesses

The first step when treating gum illnesses is professional removal of tooth tartar (outside and under the gums) using ultrasound systems or, possibly, polishing the root cement surface and appropriate drugs, reducing or fighting the inflammation.

If required, we perform a curettage procedure.

When the illness is more advanced, teeth are loose and gum tissues are in atrophy, tooth stabilizing procedures are performed. This is done using special braces or temporary crowns or bridges.

There are, however, cases when strengthening the teeth with braces or crowns and pharmacological treatment is insufficient.

Then, after stabilising the teeth, we perform Periodontal Tissue Regeneration procedures. These are highly-specialized surgical procedures using special biomaterials that cause the atrophied periodontal tissues to regenerate. In this way we may significantly restore the function and healthy look of atrophied gums and destroyed teeth.

We also use the periodontal bone regeneration method, which is of significant importance to customers preparing for receiving implants.
